public class SquareRoot

extends Logic

General Description

Iterative version of floating point square-rooter with generic exponent and mantissa sizes.

SquareRoot takes in exponent and mantissa of the floating point radicand and also the start signal to indicate the start of iterative computation. It outputs the mantissa and exponent of the square-root and also the valid signal to indicate whether the output is valid.

SquareRoot currently supports IEEE default rounding mode - "round to nearest even". SquareRoot supports normal numbers, zeros, infinities, and not-a-number types. Denormalized numbers are not supported, and give an undefined result.

Usage Examples:

First, you must import the Logic.Modules.FloatingPoint package:
import byucc.jhdl.Logic.Modules.FloatingPoint.*;

To instance a SquareRoot the following constructor would be used:
new SquareRoot(this, start, ein, fin, eout, fout, valid, instanceName);
